How letters are classified
The five letters a, e, i, o and u are counted as vowels; every other letter of the alphabet is counted as a consonant. Numbers, spaces and punctuation are ignored by both totals. The letter “y” is treated as a consonant here, since it is a consonant more often than not and this keeps the count predictable.
